Four quadrants, each holding a shooting star, each drawn inward on a path toward collision. The geometry is stark, the tension undeniable. Movements that should remain solitary are drawn into convergence.

Popelier’s piece resists beauty for its own sake. It is a study of aging: reflexes slowing, accidents waiting, time accelerating. What once felt infinite now contracts; what once seemed steady now rushes forward. The stars shine, but their brilliance is precarious, casting shadows that speak of vitality pressed against fragility.

The painting heightens the sensation of time running out, not through clocks or calendars but through motion and inevitability. In Popelier’s hands, the star becomes both symbol and reflection, a reminder that brightness and vulnerability are inseparable, and that later years carry urgency not only because they near an end, but because they sharpen our sense of what remains.

四つの象限に流れ星が描かれ、それぞれが衝突へと向かう道を内側へと引き寄せられている。その幾何学的形状は鮮明で、緊張感は否定できない。本来は孤立しているべき動きが収束へと引き寄せられる。

ポぺリエの作品は、美そのものに抵抗する。これは老化の考察である。反射神経は鈍り、事故は待ち受け、時間は加速する。かつて無限と感じられたものが今や縮小し、かつて安定していたものが今や前進する。星は輝くが、その輝きは不安定で、脆さに押しつぶされた生命力を物語る影を落とす。

この絵は、時計やカレンダーではなく、動きと必然性を通して、刻々と過ぎていく時間の感覚を高めている。ポぺリエの手によって、星は象徴であると同時に反映となり、輝きと脆さは切り離せないものであり、晩年は終わりが近いだけでなく、残されたものに対する感覚を研ぎ澄ますからこそ、切迫感を帯びていることを思い出させてくれる。
